Phonics Fun!

Blending words and identifying alien words

In Reception (FS2) we practise our phonics every day by singing songs, identifying sounds and playing games.  In the photo you can see Miss Jones' phonics group sounding out and blending the words, then identifying if they are real words or 'alien' words.  The real words go in the treasure chest and the alien words go in the bin!  Alien words are also sometimes called 'fake' words.  They are 'made up' words using the sounds we have learnt, e.g. we can use the sounds 's,a,t,p,i,n' to make the real words: sat, pin, tap, nip, sip, pat, pan and the 'alien' words: tis, nas, san. This is a good game to play at home too!
